Within the English Hub, I am an Early Language and Literacy Specialist. I am also EYFS and Key Stage 1 Lead at a school in Oldham, passionate about developing children’s reading and writing skills and inspiring a lifelong love of reading in every child.

Gareth joined the English Hub team back in 2020 and has thoroughly enjoyed supporting a wide variety of schools in the Greater Manchester area. He is the English Lead in his own school and is firmly committed to the belief that phonics and early reading is the bedrock of future success in English and the wider curriculum. You'll usually find him with a decodable book in hand.

Hattie Callaghan

I have been working with the English Hub since 2024 and I love supporting schools with developing Phonics to ensure children make the progress they are capable of. Aside to the English Hub, I am also a Reception Class Teacher.

Jane Jackson

As a KS3 Literacy Specialist, I support schools in developing effective, evidence-informed approaches to literacy so that students’ confidence and competence in reading, writing and communication improves. 

I am an experienced English teacher and Director of Literacy with a penchant for gothic literature, nature and live music

Jess Cooke

Jessica has 11 years of teaching experience across EYFS to Year 6, including two years teaching in Dubai. As a literacy specialist and former Phonics and Early Reading Lead, she is passionate about developing children’s reading skills and fostering a lifelong love of reading, with a particular passion for Early Years. Outside of school, Jessica is kept busy with her two young children going on walks, exploring new places and making the most of little adventures together.

Jo Fenton

With more than 12 years of experience as a Head Teacher leading two large maintained local authority nursery schools, I have specialised in creating nurturing, high-impact learning environments. My expertise in the sector led to a secondment as an Early Years Specialist for Rochdale Local Authority, where I supported wider strategic improvements across the region. Deeply passionate about communication and child development, I established my school as a recognised beacon for early language.

My name is Lauren Heaton, an educator with over 20 years’ experience, predominantly in the early years, particularly Reception.

As an Early Language Literacy Specialist, I’m passionate about supporting practitioners to raise attainment in C&L and literacy, helping every child find their voice and build the strongest possible foundations for learning.

Lauren Makin

I have joined the English Hub as an Early Language and Literacy Specialist, bringing over 15 years’ experience working in Reception and Key Stage 1, alongside experience in system leadership through leading a reading project and sharing effective practice to improve outcomes for children. I am passionate about developing children’s early language skills so they can broaden their experiences, communicate their needs and thrive in their first years at school. 

Leah Hadfield

Through my involvement with the English Hub, I support schools in implementing Read Write Inc. (RWI) effectively to strengthen the teaching of early reading and improve children’s reading progress. I am passionate about empowering schools and practitioners with the knowledge, skills and strategies to ensure every child develops a love of reading and has the opportunity to flourish.

I am a KS2 Literacy Specialist and Auditor, supporting other educators to develop their reading fluency practice. In my spare time, I love spending time with my daughter and sharing a good bedtime story!

I am passionate about early childhood development, particularly early language, communication and Literacy skills. I love seeing children’s language skills develop from Nursery through to Reception, ensuring they have the strong foundations they need to succeed and feel confident as they transition into Year 1. I am committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive through the development of early language skills.

Rheia Gresham

I joined the English Hub as a LS Specialist in July 2026, bringing a wealth of experience in driving standards in phonics, early reading and reading fluency across all key stages. I hold the role of Federation Phonics Lead and Early Reading Lead across two primary schools in Oldham: a three-form entry school and a one-form entry school. These roles provided me with valuable experience in leading and developing high-quality phonics and early reading provision across schools of different sizes and contexts.

Sarah Hanley-Wood

I have been working as a Literacy Specialist since 2021, supporting schools from a variety of contexts with improving phonics and early reading outcomes and delivering training around phonics, fluency, early language and reading for pleasure. In my own time, you will find me perusing the children's literature section in Waterstones with my two boys!

I joined the English Hub team in 2026 and bring many years of experience as a Year 6 teacher, as well as my current roles as Literacy Lead and SENCO. I am passionate about ensuring all children have access to high-quality reading teaching and engaging books, and outside of school I enjoy spending time with my two grandsons, running and hill walking.

Vicki Brierley

Vicki has worked with the English hub from the very beginning, as both an Auditor and Literacy Specialist. Having previously led Early Years in a range of schools, she is passionate about teaching phonics and early reading. Vicki thoroughly enjoys supporting leaders and practitioners to reach every child and establish a school culture of reading for pleasure.
